Christmas Blog Post Ideas

Christmas is approaching and that’s a big deal to most bloggers. If you want to do some festive blogging this year but aren’t quite sure where to start or what to write about, don’t worry because I want to share all of my best Christmas blog post ideas and inspiration with you.

I’d love to see you use some of these ideas on your own blog. Even reading through this post might spark your imagination and help you to come up with some new Christmas blog post ideas of your own too.

This is the first post in a three-part miniseries that will be published every Friday.  So, look out for parts 2 & 3 coming over the next two weeks, on the 2nd and 9th of November, if you like this post and want to see more of the same.

I hope my Christmas blog post ideas will be useful to almost any blogger, in almost any niche. There is an emphasis on beauty but a lot of my suggestions are really quite general and adaptable. Hopefully, there is something here for everyone and if you want some free planning resources to organise your festive blog posts, check out my printables here.

So, without further ado, here are my first five Christmas blog post ideas for you to enjoy and please do feel free to use any that you like!

Christmas Blog Post Ideas : Christmas Gift List
Christmas Blog Post Ideas : Christmas Gift List

1). A Christmas Gift List Or ‘What I Got for Christmas’ Style Post.

The first of my Christmas blog post ideas include ‘gift-guide’ style posts which usually highlight a range of potential gifts for loved ones separated into categories like ‘for him’ or ‘for her’.

If you want to blog on a more personal note, you can share your Christmas ‘wishlist’. I’m guessing that most of us already have an idea of what we might like to receive and anything from the mundane to the magical might be on your wishlist. Maybe you’d love to receive one of the new Holiday Sparkle Christmas Yankee Candles or how about a gift set from the Zoella Beauty Cosmos Collection? Maybe you don’t want to receive anything at all this year, in which case you could talk about the reasons behind that.

If you’re comfortable sharing even more personal content online, you could show people what you received for Christmas in a blog post shortly after Christmas Day. People love to be nosey and these posts are usually very popular.

Bonus ideas: There is a lot of free gift with purchase deals around at this time of year like these from Soap & Glory and Max Factor. If you do pick up a festive freebie or find a good deal, why not blog about it? You can create a Black Friday or Boxing Day Sale shopping list or you can share your bargains in a blog post after a January sale shopping spree.

2). Winter & Christmas Candles / Home Fragrance

If you like candles, there’s a lot to talk about because Christmas is probably the best time for candles.

You could blog about anything you like from detailing any new Christmas or Autumn/Winter candle collections that have caught your eye to posting a review of a tried and tested Christmas Candle. You could even do a fun candle tag like the Yankee Candle Tag! You can find all of the Yankee Candle Tag Questions, here.

There are lots of new releases from Yankee Candle this year. You could talk about which candles have caught your eye most and why. If you’re getting a candle Advent calendar, you can blog about the item inside it every day. You can even discuss what you like most about burning fragranced candles in your home.

You could share any candle tips and tricks you may have. Do you know how to make a new candle from leftover bits of wax? Maybe you have some tips and tricks for getting the best out of scented candles: you could share things like why you should keep candle wicks trimmed or why some people say you should never blow a candle out. All of this is interesting stuff and can provide useful information that’s worthwhile to share.

You could even talk more broadly about festive home fragrances in general such as Reed Diffusers, Air Fresheners and Incense. If cleaning is more your thing, you could talk about some of the Limited Edition Christmas Cleaning products that come out every year and have festive fragrances.

My take on Candles…

I’ve already blogged about some budget-friendly Christmas candles from Homebargains. You can find my review of The Wickford & Co Gingerbread Scented Candle and the Mulled Wine scented Candle here. Maybe you could post a candle review too? Or maybe you could talk about your favourite candles, candle brands and candle retailers. You could even blog about any candle dupes or alternatives you know of.

I don’t actually burn candles very often; I like to enjoy them the most during the winter months because they make everything feel so warm and cosy. I also like to be limit the amount of soot accumulating in my home.

Little-known fact: Did you know that that burning candles can cause black soot to accumulate on your walls and ceiling? You can see more of my thoughts on the rarely discussed problem of ‘candle soot in the home’ here.

Christmas Blog Post Ideas : Christmas Music

3). Christmas Music / Festive Playlist

Christmas Music is a hugely relevant topic and it’s definitely worth a blog post of some sort in its own right, especially if you’re a music lover. There are so many genres to highlight, with everything from retro party classics to Christmas pop music to traditional carols and hymns.

Inspiring Christmas song lyrics, poetry verses and even predictions for this year’s Christmas number one are all things that could be discussed if you have any thoughts to share on those subjects.

Side note: Does anyone else think those catchy Christmas songs like โ€˜All I want for Christmas Is Youโ€™ get stuck in your head extra easily?! I swear they just go round and round on repeat for what feels like forever?! The technical terminology for this phenomenon is called an earworm, I believe!

Christmas Blog Post Ideas : Film & Television

4). Christmas Film & Television / Netflix & YouTube

New releases or old favourites, film and television is another fabulous entertainment area covering a huge range of media with everything from mainstream films and TV programmes to things like Netflix series.

‘My top Christmas films’ and ‘what to watch over Christmas on Netflix’ are just 2 Christmas blog post ideas that you could go for. You could talk about your favourite movie quotes or witty comments.

You can talk about your favourite YouTubers to watch over Christmas and create a blog post highlighting all of the YouTubers you know of that are doing Vlogmas this year.

Although not really in the same genre,  you could list all the bloggers doing Blogmas instead if YouTube isn’t your thing.

If you prefer less technologically advanced forms of entertainment over Christmas, you could talk about your favourite books to read, favourite puzzles or quizzes to do and your favourite board games to play at Christmas.

Christmas Blog Post Ideas : Gift Wrapping How-To
Christmas Blog Post Ideas : Gift Wrapping How-To

5). Gift Wrapping Ideas / How To Wrap Presents

Decisions, decisions and lots to blog about if you like craftier subjects. How do you wrap presents and what style do you go for? Modern or traditional? Elaborate or basic? DIY or shop bought? Ribbon, bows and gift tags: yay or nay? What about gift bags: necessary or just nonsense? Cheap and cheerful or no expense spared luxury? Neat and tidy wrapping or rustic rough and ready? Personalised and tailor-made to suit each individual or are you a one size fits all gift wrapper? You get the idea!

With so many options to pick and choose from, what will be your go-to style this year? And do you have any tips about how to wrap presents neatly? Perhaps share a step by step gift wrapping tutorial or how-to guide.

You can discuss Christmas cards too. Maybe you know how to make beautiful homemade Christmas cards? Maybe you want to share your favourite places to buy Christmas Cards or talk about how Charities can be supported through the purchasing of certain Christmas cards. Maybe even share inspiring messages that can be written in Christmas Cards.

You could venture into related topics like recycling tips for used Christmas cards and paper packaging, etc. You could even start a conversation with your readers about the potential environmental implications of so much extra packaging materials and general waste over Christmas? The choice is yours!

*Appendix 2: Off on a Tangent – A Word of Caution on the Perils of Candle Soot

It’s a surprisingly little-known fact that Candles can and do create a lot of soot that will eventually blacken your walls and ceiling.

All candles can do this – it’s not just the cheaper ones. Iโ€™m not sure many people realise this because we’re all so accustomed to the idea of it being perfectly normal to burn candles at home all the time.

Sadly, most people only realise when Itโ€™s too late and the damage has already been done. This has never happened to me but I have seen it happen to a few people. If you rent your house, please be careful about this because you probably don’t want to upset your landlord or risk losing part of your deposit all because of it.

To minimise soot, keep wicks trimmed, don’t burn candles for more than the recommended time, try to use a candle shade and snuff out candles where possible.

    1. Hi Nancy! Thanks so much for commenting on my Festive blogging ideas post! I’m glad you enjoyed reading it. ๐Ÿ’œ Some people seem to have the magic touch when it comes to wrapping gifts beautifully and I love Holiday Candles too but the soot build-up puts me off burning them too often. I like seeing what people got for Christmas too because presents are always exciting!

Hope to see you again soon.
