Marks & Spencer January Sale Makeup & Beauty Shopping

Marks & Spencer Autograph Bumper Makeup & Beauty Gift Set January Sales 2015

While browsing in Marks & Spencer recently, I found myself lusting after this huge Autograph Makeup & Beauty Bumper Gift Set. It was originally priced at £60 but it was reduced by 60% to £23.99 in the January Sales and I just knew that I had to have it!

It's such as sophisticated looking gift set and there are plenty of things in here I know I will be able to wear and appreciate on a daily basis. This set also represents great value for money as it contains several permanent products from the Autograph beauty range that cost quite a lot when bought individually. For instance, the perfume alone usually retails for £18.00 and this entire set was £23.99!

There are also some limited edition rose gold themed products in this set that are very on trend. Probably my two favourite things from this set are the Autograph New York perfume as it's a very beautiful and ethereal fragrance that's a nice dupe for Channel's Allure fragrance. The Autograph Eyeshadow Palette is also gorgeous with it's sleek rose gold packaging and beautiful rosey pink toned eyeshadows that remind me a lot of the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette.

Makeup Geek Haul & UK Customs Fiasco

Makeup Geek Haul & UK Shopping Experience NYX Butter Gloss & Makeup Geek Loose Pigment

I recently bought a couple of items from the Makeup Geek website with a friend. I ordered a NYX Butter Gloss and a Makeup Geek Loose pigment. I'm really happy with these two products so I thought I'd take this opportunity to show you my recent purchases as well as share my overall shopping experience and explain what it was like ordering from the UK.

Makeup Geek is a website created by popular Beauty YouTuber and 'makeup educator', Marlena. She's created a line of makeup products that I've seen a lot of people raving about over the years. The eyeshadows in particular are very popular and I'm thrilled that I finally got the chance to put in an order and try something out from makeup Geek!

I picked up this Makeup Geek Loose Pigment in the shade Insomnia which is a dupe for Mac's Blue Brown Loose Pigment.

Makeup Geek Insomnia Loose Pigment // 1.4g // $6.99

- This dark chocolate colored pigment has sparkling blue/teal reflects and the duochrome effect simply means the color changes as you blend. It will appear as multiple colors, although you are using just one pigment. Its velvet-like texture makes it easily applicable, gliding on with ease. Use alone or with a wet brush to create a variety of different looks.
Cruelty Free

I also ordered a NYX Butter Lip Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie as I was struggling to find NYX products in the UK. I have since discovered that quite a lot of Next stores sell NYX so I actually picked up 7 more Butter Glosses for only £2 each in my Boxing Day Sale Haul! If I'd have known that before ordering this, I might not have ordered this... but oh well, it's a lovely shade anyway...

NYX Vanilla Cream Pie Butter Lip Gloss // 8ml // $5.99

- This Mauve shade is a Buttery lip gloss with a sweet scent that provides sheer to medium coverage with a non-sticky feeling. Can be used alone or over lipstick. Great for moisturised lips, a pop of colour and pearly shine.
Cruelty Free

The UK Shopping Experience

I ordered with a friend and we got 5 products (3 x Eyeshadow Pans, 1 x Loose Pigment & 1 x Butter Lip Gloss). Our order came to around $30 (about £20) and postage was $18 (about £12). Then we had to pay another $18 (about £12) in Customs Charges just to receive out package!

Shipping was quick (within two weeks) and relatively inexpensive and delivery was via Royal Mail, requiring a signature on delivery. However, the unexpected Customs Charges really stung! As it turns out, any package sent to the UK with a value of £15 or more is subject to customs charges, so, please bear that in mind before ordering.

I'm really happy with my purchases from Makeup Geek but in all honesty, I probably won't order anything from them again as I find the customs charges / import duty too costly. Of course, this isn't Makeup Geek's fault, it's just how international packages are currently charged here in the UK. My impression is that customs charges are a lot more expensive here than elsewhere in the world.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my personal experience with you guys...

I also made a video too :)

Have you tried anything from Makeup Geek before? Do you watch Marlena's (a.k.a Makeup Geek's) videos on YouTube?

Review I Biona Organic Raw Coconut Oil

Biona Organic Raw Coconut Oil

I first discovered Coconut Oil a couple of years ago and one of the things I immediately liked the most about it was it's versatility. In fact, I'm still discovering new ways of using it, even now!

This large 400g jar of Biona Organic Coconut Oil is the best version I've tried to date. I didn't think of trying a Coconut Oil in a jar like this previously as it seems like a product more suited towards cooking purposes. However, this is in fact ideal for beauty applications! It's completely natural and contains 100% cold-pressed, unrefined organic Coconut Oil which is exactly what you want from a high quality Coconut Oil! I also think it's great to know that a product like this is all natural.

This coconut oil smells just like real coconut and that is a fragrance I adore! At room temperature, the consistency is relatively soft so it can easily be scooped out of the jar using a spoon. It melts into a liquid on contact with skin meaning that there isn't any need to heat it up first like a lot of other coconut oils I've tried.

The basics at a glance:

Packaging: Glass Jar with metal screw lid
Designed for: Everything from cooking to skincare!
Consistency: Solid but melts to a liquid
Scent: Coconut
Size: 400g
Price: £8.49
Available from: Ocado

Coconut Oil has a multitude of uses so I've decided to share my top 5 beauty applications with you!

Facial Cleanser

Coconut Oil can be used as a cleanser as it breaks down makeup and excess oils. There are some people who can use coconut oil as their daily cleanser and they don't need to apply moisturiser afterwards as the coconut oil itself doesn't dry skin out in the same way as a lot of cleansers do.

Eye makeup Remover

Coconut Oil gently breaks down even the most stubborn eye makeup and also conditions the delicate skin around the eye area.

Eye lash conditioner / growth

Coconut Oil is good at moisturizing and softening eyelashes which can sometimes become brittle and snap off due to regular use of mascara. It also works wonders for some people as an eyelash growth serum and if it works for you, it makes a brilliant budget alternative to expensive lash growth serums!

Facial Moisturiser

Coconut Oil works wonderfully for me as a facial moisturiser. I like to use this at night whenever my skin feels in need of some intensive nourishment. It's great for dealing with any stubborn patches of dry skin. On a slightly negative note, Coconut Oil is regarded as comedogenic which means it can clog pores and may lead to blackheads in some people but I haven't had any problems with that myself. In fact, in some people it can reduce acne because it contains compounds that block acne bacteria from developing. You only need to use the most tiny amount of this as a little bit really does go a long way and with a 400g jar, this could possibly be the most cost effective moisturiser ever!

Hair Mask

Using Coconut Oil as an overnight hair mask was how I first got into using Coconut Oil. This method does leave hair feeling super soft and nourished but the obvious downside is that it's quite time consuming and messy to be regularly leaving on your hair over night. I now prefer to apply a small amount to the ends of my hair an hour or two prior to washing it to help keep those dreaded split ends at bay!

So, overall this Biona Coconut Oil is a high quality, cost effective and versatile product!
I'd love to know if you've tried using coconut oil before and what you like to use it for!

Review I Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Brow Gel

Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Tinted Brow Gel in Blonde Review

Well groomed eyebrows are very much the 'in thing' at the moment. Recently, I've been using this Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Tinted Eyebrow Gel in Blonde to improve the look of my eyebrows and bring them bang up to date with current makeup trends.

The basics at a glance:

Packaging: Plastic tube with brush applicator
Designed for: The eyebrows
Consistency: Liquid Gel
Size: 6 ml
Price: $18
Available from: Billion Dollar Brows

Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Tinted Brow Gel in Blonde Review
Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Tinted Brow Gel in Blonde Review

This Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Tinted Eyebrow Gel originally came in a Wantable Makeup Box (review here). I have this in the shade blonde which is for fair hair and is perfect for me as I'm currently blonde. This shade is quite ashy and cool toned in comparison to a lot of the more orange and warmer toned blonde eyebrow products I've tried previously. It's also available in 'Taupe' which is for medium to dark hair.

This tinted eyebrow gel is packaged in a tube with a spoolie brush applicator which is much like a traditional mascara wand. This product is designed to be applied to the brows by combing the product through the brows. In one step, this product shapes brows, adds colour and gel. I personally think that the best way to apply this product is with a light hand and by gradually building up the coverage as it will just look messy if packed on too heavily and it can also smudge onto the skin around the brows. The formula is quite wet but does dry down to a well set and lasting finish. The thing I probably like best about this product is that it can be very quick to use which is especially good if you just want to define and set your brows all in one step.

The spoolie wand is quite large for my fine eyebrows and I do find it a little bit difficult to be precise with at times. It is possible to apply this product with a small angled brush instead but I actually do like the spoolie brush concept, I would just prefer it to be a little bit smaller. When I do accidentally smudge a little on my skin, I just go in with a cotton bud dipped in some foundation or concealer and it's easy to clean up any mess around the edges to create a crisp, clean shape.

Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Tinted Brow Gel in Blonde Before & After
Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Tinted Brow Gel in Blonde Before & After

I think that this product is best used for creating a natural look but with a little perseverance, you can build this up to get quite a decent amount of colour payoff without it looking like you just drew on your eyebrows with a crayon! As you can see in the picture above, this did a good job of filling in my sparse and unruly inner brow area. This product isn't super cheap but it does last for ages. I've been using this at least 5 days a week for nearly 6 months now and it's still going strong!

All in all this is a nice brow product, but I would like to try out some similar products from the drugstore such as the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Gel before deciding whether or not to repurchase this one as it can be difficult to get hold of in the UK.

EDIT: Billion Dollar Brows products are now readily available and easy to find in the UK! You can find your local stockist here.

How are you styling your brows at the moment?
