Review I Sweet Cecily’s Make Your Own DIY Lipbalm Kit

Sweet Cecily's Make Your Own DIY Natural Lipbalm Kit in Strawberry

I do enjoy a good lipbalm but this is the first time I’ve ever had the fun of making my very own DIY lipbalm! I used this Make Your Own Kit from Sweet Cecily’s which allows anyone to make 5 all natural lipbalms from scratch. It comes complete with all the necessary ingredients as well as some adorable little lipbalm tins, each with it’s own customizable sticky label.

This Make Your Own Lipbalm Kit from Sweet Cecily’s is more than just a fun DIY beauty project or a great gift idea as you actually end up with 5 gorgeous all natural lipbalms that remind me a lot of the LUSH Cosmetics ones. Like a lot of girls, I’ve tried too many lipbalms but over time, I’ve come to realize that my favorite ones usually contain natural ingredients such as oils, butters and waxes. I like these types of lipbalms best because they always feel very moisturizing on my lips and to my delight, this strawberry lipbalm kit contains plenty of rich and naturally moisturising ingredients.

The outer product packaging has an authentic and slightly handmade feel to it but the overwhelming impression is still that of a well thought out and polished design. It consists of a brown cardboard box with a large sticky label on the top and the Sweet Cecily’s branding and logo printed on the front side. While the packaging may be simple, sturdy and environmentally friendly, it’s the personalized name printed on the sticky label that makes it feel so much more special than just another brown recyclable cardboard box but of course, we all know it’s what’s inside that really matters! #innerbeauty

Inside the box, there is a selection of ingredients, tins and labels. All of the contents are visible through transparent packaging that is clearly labeled and hygienically sealed. On the inside of the box lid, there is a straightforward list of instructions to follow that I found smoothly guided me through the enjoyable process of creating these DIY lipbalms.

This is a picture heavy post, but I’ve captured the step by step process of making my DIY all natural lipbalms at home below.

The process of making these lipbalms was fun and hassle free. My finished lipbalms ended up looking a bit lumpy but this was entirely my own fault. I stopped to take a photograph half way through spooning the mixture into the lipbalm containers and in that time, the mixture started to cool down and set. So, that’s the main piece of advice I would offer based on my experience: Spoon the mixture into the lipbalm containers quickly or else the mixture may start to set, giving your finished lipbalms the appearance of an uneven surface.

As for the usability of the finished lipbalms themselves, they’re very moisturising and soothing. It’s nice to know exactly what’s in them and these are packed full of richly nourishing and natural ingredients rather than petroleum by-products.

The blank sticky labels are a lovely feature as you can decorate it however you like. Perhaps you could create a design based on the seasons, a memorable occasion or you could even personlise it to make an extra special gift for somebody else.

Very happy with how my homemade lipbalm turned out!
This Make Your Own Lipbalm Kit is available from Sweet Cecily’s in four different varieties: Strawberry, Orange, Spearmint and unscented. The lipbalm kits retail for £15.95 which works out at £3.19 per tin of lipbalm. As I said earlier, the finished product does remind me a lot of the LUSH Cosmetics lipbalms but those ones retail for £5.75 each so this kit not only provides a great way of having some creative fun but it’s also pretty good value for money too. And with five lipbalms to go at, there is plenty to share with friends and family. I’ve already given one away to my sister and I’m saving a couple more to use as stocking fillers. Sweet Cecily’s also have a Make Your Own Body Scrub Kit and a Make Your Own Face Mask Kit which seem very tempting too!
Sweet Cecily’s have just launched their new website to showcase some of the latest additions to their product line and to celebrate, they’re offering free UK shipping on all orders until the end of September. Simply enter the code: LAUNCH2014 at the checkout.
